男子高校生が図書館に本を返します。女性の図書館司書（実験協力者）が「ありがとうございます」と受け取ります。その時に司書が高校生の気付かない程度に手に軽く触れます。
すると高校生の、その司書への好感度が上がるのです。
　手をチラッと触れられた高校生の方がそうでない高校生よりも司書を「魅力的」と思う割合が高まるわけです。本人が触れられたことに気付いてない場合でも、好感度が高いのです。さらに面白いのは、「魅力の理由」を尋ねられた時、
「笑顔が素敵だったから」「髪型がいいなぁと思った」
と、高校生は手に触れられたことに気付いていないので、自分の感情の理由をでっち上げてしまうのです。
・・・実験の根本の差異である「手に触れられるか」が、本当の理由ですが、本人はそれに気付いていない。
すると、人は自分の好悪の理由も分からないまま、本来の理由と異なる理由をこじつけてしまう。この脳の性質は「作話」と言われます。
